    The American Girl Doll Adventures

    Get ready for an exciting adventure at camp! Bring your American girl dolls and lots of energy because it’s going to be so much more than just playing with them. At camp, we’ll have a blast using our imagination to explore different times in history with our American Girl Historical Character dolls. It’s not just about the dolls - it’s about discovering their world, culture, and what life was like in America back then.
    As we travel through different time periods, we’ll do fun things like making delicious desserts, having teatime, creating amazing art, and getting hands-on with history! Each day will be filled with tea parties, games, storytelling, reading American Girl Books, and, of course, lots of laughter and fun!

    Students will explore how to craft several different forms utilizing three main techniques: Pinch, Coil, and Slab construction. After each technique is introduced and practiced, students will be asked to rely on their imagination to create personal and unique forms. These one-of-a-kind pieces will be special to each student. Students will have the opportunity to underglaze the pieces which are ready with bright and vibrant colors. Some pieces may be glazed by Mr. Lalomia as some pieces will not be far enough along in the clay cycle. Students will get dirty, so please wear clothing and shoes that you don’t mind dirtying. Students are encouraged to bring a light snack and water bottle.

    Baseball Camp

    Join us for a dynamic camp experience centered on fundamental skill development and enjoyable gameplay via engaging drills and activities. Led by Sewickley Academy's Varsity Head Coach Andrew Petruska, along with assistant coaches and experienced players, participants will not only enhance their skills but also foster teamwork and sportsmanship. Players will be grouped based on grade level and/or skill proficiency.

    Ensure you come prepared with your baseball gear, a snack, and water. Should you require equipment, please don't hesitate to contact Coach Petruska in advance.

    Please note that this camp will take place at Nichols Field (600 Beaver Road, Edgeworth, PA, 15143) and all campers should be dropped off and picked up from this location each day. If we experience inclement weather, we will inform all families to drop off their child at Sewickley Academy's main campus where camp will take place in our indoor facilities.

    Let’s Make A Racquet: Tennis Camp

    Come join our returning coach, Mark Haffner, for another exciting year of learning to serve, volley, and overhead. Mark Haffner has been a teaching professional for over thirty years and was named the 2010 USTA Tennis Professional of the Year. This high-energy camp will focus on the importance of sportsmanship, agility, movement, and the strength that is involved in the game of tennis. Participants are welcome to bring their own racquet to camp. Equipment will be provided for anyone who does not bring their own. 

    Little Veterinarian School Camp

    Become a paw-some and purr-fect veterinarian! Camp participants will role-play the key responsibilities of a veterinarian and learn how to care for a dog and/or a cat. These future veterinarians will learn how to remove ticks, perform a nose-to-tail exam, understand proper animal nutrition, and hydration, suture lacerations, and more!

    Ninja Turtles or Renaissance Artists?

    Tabletop Adventures

    Spend your week playing Dungeons & Dragons and similar tabletop roleplaying games! Each day we’ll try out a different game system with a unique world and set of rules. We’ll take breaks from gaming for projects such as designing your character’s outfit, creating an imaginative beast, or drawing a map of a land you’ve dreamed up. Throughout the week we’ll discover and discuss what it means to be both a good player and a good game master and interested students will have the opportunity to run their own short adventure. 

    Beginner Percussion Camp

    Drum roll please! In our Beginner Percussion Camp, students will learn rudimentary percussion skills as they relate to marching percussion. By the end of their time in camp, students will be able to understand how to count time signatures, read percussion sheet music, and perform a “cadence” drum beat for their peers. Students are required to bring their own pair of drumsticks and a drum pad. Recommendations for these materials will be provided upon request.

    Coding Camp for Beginners

    Coding is one of the leading skills in today’s digital age and assists our students to develop their creativity, problem-solving skills, and logical thinking. In this interactive program, students will learn how to code with computer languages such as C++, Java, and Python. 

    Geometry and Data Analysis

    Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I, including mastery of radical expressions. This is a regular geometry course, not an honors course, but due to the limited period, some students will find the pace of the course challenging. Students will explore Euclidean and solid geometries, emphasizing plan geometry. Topics include logic and proofs, polygons, perimeter and area, surface area and volume, and similar shapes (ratio and proportion). The Data Analysis topics of study include: Classifying and visually representing data, descriptive statistics including measures of central tendency and measures of spread, and methods of sampling. Lessons and homework assignments will challenge students to apply these concepts, developing inductive and deductive logical reasoning skills. Students will earn one credit towards Senior School graduation by completing this five-week course. 

    Visiting students are responsible for verifying that their schools will accept credit for the course. 

    Vacations/Missed Classes: If a student needs to miss due to a vacation, they should inform the instructor before the class begins. Students who miss are still responsible for all tests and homework. 

    Withdrawal/Refund Policy: To cover an entire year of Geometry in 5 weeks (24 classes), the course moves quickly. Again, students that struggle in math may find the pace of this course challenging. Students who formally withdraw by the THIRD DAY of class will receive a 67% refund. After the third day, no refunds are given.

    Documentary Time

    Students will choose from a list of documentaries provided by me to watch for the week. After each documentary students will have the opportunity to discuss their views and understanding of the film. Documentaries that will be offered vary on topics (Sports, Coming of Age stories, Commercial Food Industry, Astronomy, etc.). Documentaries give people a great opportunity to access information about global, social, and political issues they might not otherwise be exposed to. It is important to challenge your own perspective when watching.

    Coding Camp Advanced

    Junior Hoops Basketball Camp

    Pottery Wheel: Bowls & Trimming

    In this course, students will spend the majority of their time working on the wheel. There will be several demonstrations in order to teach the students a certain technique, but the students will be on the wheel for the majority of their time. In this course the focus will be set on creating simple bowls, and after this milestone is mastered, students will try their hands at trimming the bowls. Students who are entering the course with prior knowledge and experience will be encouraged to move at their own pace with additional assistance and encouragement from Mr. Lalomia. Students will get dirty, so please wear clothing and shoes that you don’t mind dirtying. Students are encouraged to bring a light snack and water bottle.

    Authors and Illustrators

    Story Book Clay Characters

    This is a wonderful camp which allows each student to use their imaginations and free will to create whimsical characters from popular children’s books. At the start of each project the students will be read to from one of the many children’s books by Mr. Lalomia. Students will then be asked to select a character(s) from the book and create the character out of clay. Students may also choose to create a scene or setting from clay. Students will get dirty, so please wear clothing and shoes that you don’t mind dirtying. Students are encouraged to bring a light snack and water bottle.

    American Sign Language for Early Learners

    Have you ever been curious about American Sign Language (ASL)? Being able to use your hands to share thoughts, feelings and words themselves? 

    ASL is growing into a highly influential skill to have throughout both school and post secondary education. All students deserve the change and opportunity to express themselves, and by learning ASL, we give our students another way to express their wants and needs.

    In this course, we will explore the basics of American Sign Language, such as the alphabet, numbers, colors, signs we can use in school, while simultaneously learning the fingerspelling system and incorporating our early literacy skills such as letter recognition, sight word recognition, and spelling rules.

In this interactive camp course, students will learn how to code to solve complicated problems by using advanced coding structures. Students will learn how to code with various computer languages such as C++, Python, and Java.

    Geometry and Data Analysis

    Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I, including mastery of radical expressions. This is a regular geometry course, not an honors course, but due to the limited period, some students will find the pace of the course challenging. Students will explore Euclidean and solid geometries, emphasizing plan geometry. Topics include logic and proofs, polygons, perimeter and area, surface area and volume, and similar shapes (ratio and proportion). The Data Analysis topics of study include: Classifying and visually representing data, descriptive statistics including measures of central tendency and measures of spread, and methods of sampling. Lessons and homework assignments will challenge students to apply these concepts, developing inductive and deductive logical reasoning skills. Students will earn one credit towards Senior School graduation by completing this five-week course. 

    Visiting students are responsible for verifying that their schools will accept credit for the course. 

    Vacations/Missed Classes: If a student needs to miss due to a vacation, they should inform the instructor before the class begins. Students who miss are still responsible for all tests and homework. 

    Withdrawal/Refund Policy: To cover an entire year of Geometry in 5 weeks (24 classes), the course moves quickly. Again, students that struggle in math may find the pace of this course challenging. Students who formally withdraw by the THIRD DAY of class will receive a 67% refund. After the third day, no refunds are given.

    Inspired learning today - healthy futures tomorrow! Camp participants will role-play the key responsibilities of a doctor and learn about vital organs in the human body. These future doctors will learn how to use a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and reflex hammer. They will practice administering first aid, learn how pharmacists play a role in administering medications, and more!

    American Sign Language for Early Learners

    Have you ever been curious about American Sign Language (ASL)? Being able to use your hands to share thoughts, feelings and words themselves? 

    ASL is growing into a highly influential skill to have throughout both school and post secondary education. All students deserve the change and opportunity to express themselves, and by learning ASL, we give our students another way to express their wants and needs.

    In this course, we will explore the basics of American Sign Language, such as the alphabet, numbers, colors, signs we can use in school, while simultaneously learning the fingerspelling system and incorporating our early literacy skills such as letter recognition, sight word recognition, and spelling rules.

    Students will work on projects requiring design and building. Lego sets, dominos, and puzzles will be offered to students.     Pottery Wheel Cups & Mugs

    In this course, students will spend the majority of their time working on the wheel. There will be several demonstrations in order to teach the students a certain technique, but the students will be on the wheel for the majority of their time. In this course the focus will be set on creating cups and mugs. Students will be taught several different techniques on how to create handles. Students who are entering the course with prior knowledge and experience will be encouraged to move at their own pace with additional assistance and encouragement from Mr. Lalomia. Students will get dirty, so please wear clothing and shoes that you don’t mind dirtying. Students are encouraged to bring a light snack and water bottle.

    Songwriting and Performance camp is great for students who have song ideas and want to learn how to put them into a song! Students will learn about co-writing/collaboration, lyrics, melody and song structure. Combining talents and differing ability levels and interests, students will create their own compositions. The class will introduce students to basic music theory and music recording. Camp will culminate with a performance of original songs.

    Come join our returning coach, Mark Haffner, for another exciting year of learning to serve, volley, and overhead. Mark Haffner has been a teaching professional for over thirty years and was named the 2010 USTA Tennis Professional of the Year. This high-energy camp will focus on the importance of sportsmanship, agility, movement, and the strength that is involved in the game of tennis. Participants are welcome to bring their own racquet to camp. Equipment will be provided for anyone who does not bring their own. 

    Sewickley Academy Boys Lacrosse Camp

    Join us this summer for a week of lacrosse camp! Learn the Sewickley lacrosse way while getting a high quantity of high quality reps! It is our mission to provide a fun, challenging, and safe environment that teaches players about the great game of lacrosse, develops skills and teamwork, and leaves players wanting more. 

    Camp is open to players of all different experience levels. Participants will get the opportunity to work with everyone as well as with other players who are alike in both age and ability. At the end of the week campers will be able to test their skills during contests, and prizes will be awarded. 

    Lacrosse is a full contact sport and this program will have games and drills where contact will happen. Participants must come fully equipped with their own stick, helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, and arm pads. Players should also have a mouth guard, wear cleats, and bring a water bottle daily. A limited number of full equipment sets are available on a first-come first-serve basis to be loaned to families as needed. Each player will receive a practice jersey, and water coolers will be available for refilling bottles.

You've learned how to volley and serve in Coach Haffner's Let's Make A Racquet Tennis Camp, now it's time to learn how to aim and shoot in the Floor Hockey Camp. Mark Haffner has been a teaching professional for over 40 years and serves as a former USA Hockey Referee and hockey player. This high-energy camp will focus on the importance of sportsmanship, movement, and the fundamentals of floor hockey such as passing, shooting, and ball possession. Participants are required to bring a face mask, stick and shin pads. Participants are also highly encouraged to bring a water bottle and a light snack to camp every day.

    This camp is for the student interested in singing pop/rock commercial music. Students will learn basic vocal technique used for contemporary pop vocal sounds, including proper breath
    support, strong resonance and bright tone production. Throughout the week, students will explore today’s popular music, along with some of the most popular songs of the 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s in various genres of pop, rock, Broadway, folk, R&B and country. Together, we will choose the best songs with custom-made keys and arrangements that showcase each student at their best. There will be opportunities for solo, duo and group singing. Students will also learn basic microphone technique with a sound system in preparation for the final day presentation for family and friends!
