Coach's Comments

So proud of how our team competed and our students and adults supported our guys Tuesday night in an enjoyable game at OSLH. They have a formidable basketball team as they are loaded with talented players and are well coaches. We trailed 24 - 12 at the end of the first period as we encountered three obstacles besides OLSH in the first quarter: an illness taking a 6'6" player off the court, an injury taking a 6'2" player off the court, and foul trouble taking a 6'2" player off the court. Our 5'8" substitutes need to learn to play with the heart we see from them during practice. We dug a deeper hole in the second quarter falling behind 33 - 16; at this point our future Division I player took over the game as Isiah sparked us to a 17 - 7 run to close the halftime score to 40 - 33. Rees demonstrated his toughness by gutting it out and returning to the game despite his injury; John's defense and grittiness helped us during this run, and Donald began hitting shots.

In the second half, despite being worn down, we kept battling throughout. Rees' three pointer cut it to 55 - 51 at the end of the third quarter. Isiah's old fashioned three point play cut the margin to three in the fourth. We could never quite grab the lead and had to foul at the end of the game to push the OLSH final margin to 8.

Despite being double and triple teamed all night Isiah had an amazing night with 34 points, including 12 - 14 from the foul line to go with his double double of 13 rebounds and 6 assists! Donald had a career high of 26 points that featured an 8 for 12 performance from the 3 point line along with 5 rebounds! John had 7 rebounds and Rees had 6 rebounds and many hustle plays.

We never play the what if game at Sewickley Academy. We battled hard and played great team basketball all night long. We need other guys to develop their mental and physical games so they can contribute on nights with illnesses, injuries and/or foul trouble. These situations are all part of the game, and we make no excuses for them.

The SA community is so proud of how our players and student section represented the Academy Tuesday night!!!
