Coach's Comments
On Friday the Panthers were back in action against section opponent Cornell. John DelVecchio led the game off with a single but Karlik hit into a fielder’s choice. After a steal and overthrow, Karlik was at third with 1 out. Unfortunately the Panthers could not get that early run in and Cornell’s pitcher went to work after that. DelVecchio started at pitcher for S.A. and was strong until the 4rd when he gave up two singles and then Cornell’s Hayden had a sac-fly to give them a 1-0 lead.
That is all Cornell would need as S.A. could not get anything going from a strong pitching performance by Blackstone. The Panthers had 1st and 2nd in the fourth and sixth inning but could not get a run across. Cornell added another run in the fifth and the Panthers lost 2-0. DelVecchio pitched 6 innings, giving up 2 runs, 4 hits and striking out 6.
