Coach's Comments
To cap off an incredible season, our guys came through with a fantastic finish, playing the final six holes of team competition (shotgun start) in the following manner on a difficult golf course: JF Aber one under par Peter Curran even par Will Nocito even par Cole Luther 2 over par Landen Shirley 2 over par
With the updated live scoring in place this year, we were trailing Moravian Academy by six-seven strokes at this point, and their players and parents were quite excited by this news. Our guys ignored all of the excitement around them, knowing that we had rallied before, just recently at the WPIAL Championship. Their poise and sharp play is a great testament to what everyone on our team has done superbly this year. Focused play, superb preparation, and true enjoyment of their team and support for one another helped produce the calm manner in which we blew away a talented field down the stretch to win by 11 strokes over Scranton Prep in shooting a new record low for the Academy at the Heritage Hills golf course!
JF was the medalist with a 74 reflecting his determination to improve as he registered a career low, and our three seniors finished their careers the right way as they all finished in the top 10! Their leadership as captains produced a culture of fun, freedom of expression, and a drive to be the best collectively. Landen was 10 over par after 10 holes and still finished with an 83, the lowest score we have ever thrown out in states. Dave and Matt served vital roles during this competition as "assistant coaches" for me (two talented athletes finding another way to help their teammates), and Austin helped us through circulating important information down the stretch.
Many thanks to our parents for all of the support throughout the year! Our golf alumni continue to be present in our program through their many texts throughtout the year and rounds of golf during the summer with our guys to help them understand the importance of carrying yourself a certain way while enjoying this great game and as well as witnessing first hand that the connections from the many van rides etc... last well into the future.
Many thanks to Coach Hastings for all his work through the years working with the junior varsity golfers to start them on this journey involving great patience, wisdom and humor! Missie B continues to teach a number of our golfers both the techniques and the many nuances of the game - thank you! Finally, the folks at Allegheny Country Club provide a first class facility to both our girls and boys programs in such a supportive manner. John Aber and his staff have touched the lives of all of these golfers through many lessons and pointers throughout the year - thank you!
