Myron Milkovich

Athlete: Gymnastics and Hockey
Grade: 4
Started with SA in: Pre-Kindergarten
Future plans: “I either want to be a hockey player or a gymnast.”
Role model: “I don’t really have one.”
Favorite thing about SA: “Probably learning. I like learning math, reading, and writing.”
Spotlight: Already an accomplished athlete at age nine, Myron has been participating in gymnastics since he was 18 months old and began playing hockey at age six. He is a Squirt with the North Pittsburgh Youth Hockey Association (aka Wildcats) and competes on the Division I, Level 5 team at the Western PA Gymnastics Club. Please don’t ask which one he likes better, because there’s no way he can choose. Between the two, he trains 16-18 hours per week. Gymnastics seems to be where he truly stands out, having joined his first competitive team at age four. He has won state-level competitions and is the reigning back-to-back state champion on the rings. Having won more than 70 medals/trophies, more than half of which are for first or second place, his current focus is on the upcoming state meet in March where his “goal is to get better on floor and maybe try to win floor.” Myron competes in all six events that are open to boys: high bar, rings, parallel bars, pommel, vault, and floor. He particularly enjoys the rings and the mushroom (a pommel trainer), and has begun training, with hopes of qualifying, for next year’s National Future Stars Men’s Gymnastics Competition held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado where the top 18 ten-year-old gymnasts in the country are chosen to represent the national team. When asked whether he’d recommend gymnastics to other kids his age, he said, “Yes. It’s fun being able to be an athlete and learn better sportsmanship.” – a skill he believes is also taught at Sewickley Academy.
