Coach's Comments
In the home opener we welcomed the #9 ranked team in the state. We had very good support from our students and community in what turned out to be a very exciting game. In the first half we played very well and built up a lead at halftime of 42 - 25. As good teams do, Serra responded in the second half behind an amazing performance from their 6'9' shooter who ended up scoring 43 points. We ended up getting in foul trouble, and , while, like most coaches, I'm not sure I was in agreement with some of those calls, we have learn to adjust to how the game is being officiated. We have a smart group of players who are in the process of doing so.
What was significant was that when Serra made its run, we kept our poise and made many smart decisions down the stretch. With just two returning players with much varsity experience, that was great to see. Our poise in the last few moments was outstanding! We shot 47% from the field including 8 of 18 from three point line. We shot 77% from the foul line going 17 for 22. The Belt brothers were outstanding as Donald scored a career high 18 points and Max a career high 15 points! Nate and Isiah each had 10 rebounds, and despite excessive physical play directed at them, they played beautiful basketball as Nate had 20 points and 4 assists, and Isiah 16 points and 5 assists. John did many little things well for us as did Rees.
