Robotics Team Gears Up for Season
By: Erin Whitaker, Middle School Technology Coordinator
The Sewickley Academy Middle School Robotics Team had their first scrimmage of the season on Saturday, October 28, 2017.
The team was able to test out their programming and were successful in many of the hydrodynamic-themed missions. Since this was an educational scrimmage, the referees didn't keep score and the team did not compete against other teams. The scrimmage provided an opportunity to test different programs and receive feedback and suggestions from the referees on how the team can improve for the competitive scrimmages.
The students were also given the opportunity to take a tour of the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) in Lawrenceville, where they met with a robotics engineer who talked about the design process and showed several real autonomous robot prototypes developed for military and commercial needs.
Sewickley Academy will host the next event on Saturday, December 9, in the Events Center.
