SA Senior and Junior Earn Honors from the Western Pennsylvania Scholastic Writing Competition
Senior Kate Busatto earned two Gold Keys at the Scholastic Writing Awards – Pittsburgh Region 2016.
She was awarded one for poetry for her pieces “Washington St.,” “Crouching in the Wake of Caved Ceilings,” and “Anemia” and one for dramatic script for “The Sticking Place.” She also earned a Silver Key for her poem “January House” as well as two Honorable Mentions for her poems “Place I Lived” and “Sister’s Twin.” Her winning work has been entered in the National Scholastic Competition.
Kate received a nomination for The American Voice Award, the highest honor for poetry, for her pieces “Washington St.,” “Crouching in the Wake of Caved Ceilings,” and “Anemia.”
Junior Sarah Fruehauf was awarded Honorable Mention for her humorous essay titled “Up in the Clouds.”
According to its website, the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project is a non-profit, teacher-centered professional development program, serving area schools and students for nearly 30 years. The program is hosted by the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education and a long-standing affiliate of the National Writing Project.
