The 70th Annual Clothesline Sale is Coming Soon to Academy Avenue!

The 70th Annual Clothesline Sale is coming to Sewickley Academy!
Sewickley Academy is excited to announce its highly anticipated Annual Clothesline Sale, set to take place daily from September 19 to 24, 2024, in Snyder Gym on campus. This event promises not only fantastic bargains on a variety of clothing, sporting goods, books, and more, but also an opportunity to support the Sewickley Academy Home & School Association and the greater community of Pittsburgh.

This Academy tradition began 70 years ago when a group of mothers wanted to host a consignment sale for their sons' outgrown suit coats. Over the years the sale has changed and grown tremendously. The 2023 sale generated just over $120,000.

The 70th Annual Clothesline Sale will feature a diverse selection of new and gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories for people of all ages. Attendees can expect to find everything from name-brand golf clubs and sporting equipment to unique fashion pieces and sought-after designer items, all meticulously organized and ready for a new home.

For the first time in sale history, the 2024 sale will include a $10 Cash DoorBuster Sale on Thursday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anyone wishing to shop before the sale opens to the public can do so by paying $10 at the door. Children 5 and under will be free. The traditions of the half-price sale on the second-to-last day and the $25 bag day on the final day also continue this year.

In addition to providing great deals, the sale will help raise funds for the Sewickley Academy Home and School Association. Proceeds from the sale directly benefit students, enhance their educational experience, and support organizations around the Pittsburgh area. Previous sales have supported multiple organizations, including Goodwill, Dress for Success, Vietnam Veterans of America, Girls & Boys Hope, and Adoption Connection (Beaver). In addition to local organizations, the Clothesline Sale has provided support to communities in Mali, West Africa.

For Sewickley Academy, the 2023 Clothesline Sale funded Grants for Innovative Frameworks in Teaching (G.I.F.T. Program) to support teachers in capturing opportunities for innovative and interdisciplinary projects that happen throughout the school year; Faculty and Staff Appreciation events; and The Above and Beyond Program that grants requests from parents, students, faculty, staff, and administration to improve the school in the following areas: productivity, faculty enrichment, student educational enhancement, student wellness, and community. Some of the items granted over the 2023-2024 school year included a telescope, campus visits from artist Jo Wos and speaker Marke Freeman, renovations to the campus greenhouse, a 3D Clay Printer, and more.

The Clothesline Sale is made possible by donations from Sewickley Academy families, alumni, and the surrounding community members. It is staffed entirely by volunteers, who generously offer their time—over 2,500 hours—and resources during the months of August and September to transform Snyder Gym into a giant consignment sale.

Receiving of donations and items for the 70th Annual Clothesline Sale will take place August 26 to 31, and September 3 to 9 outside of Rea Auditorium. The committee gratefully accepts new and gently used clothing, shoes, costumes, sporting goods, fashion accessories, books, and more for all ages. Receiving will be closed on Sunday, September 1, and Monday, September 2, for Labor Day.
