Sewickley Academy’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Plan Is Available Online
In a letter shared with the community on Monday, April 5, Board Chair Kate (Poppenberg '82) Pigman and Head of School Kolia O'Connor wrote, "The plan represents just the latest step in the long journey on which Sewickley Academy has been embarked over the last three-plus decades to strengthen our school by strengthening our community. We know that relationships are at the heart of any outstanding education, and the community is best positioned to support the development of those relationships when it is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and socially just."
Four Grade 5 Students Receive Community of Respect Award
As Virtual School wrapped up for the year, Head of Lower School Ryan Baxter notified four Grade 5 students – Giovanni, Bella, Nicholas, and Isabela – that they were this year’s Community of Respect Award recipients.
The Community of Respect Award is given annually to the student or students who best exemplify Sewickley Academy’s Core Values of community, diversity, educational vigor, and character.
Character - Sewickley Academy upholds the highest ideals of honor, integrity, responsibility, respect, empathy, and kindness and the actions that flow from them.
Educational Vigor - Sewickley Academy is committed to the highest standards and expectations in academics, while recognizing the essential contribution of athletics and the arts, and the maintenance of an appropriate balance among the three.
Diversity - Sewickley Academy is dedicated to being a community that represents and celebrates different backgrounds, talents, interests, and divergent yet informed opinions.
Community - Sewickley Academy seeks to foster a deep understanding and appreciation of our connections with one another and those beyond our borders, as well as our obligation and responsibility to serve and lead inherent in these bonds.
