Senior Alina Mattson Reflects on her Second Trip to Haiti
I had an opportunity to travel to Haiti with an organization called Work my junior year at Sewickley Academy. What struck me about this organization was their integration into the communities and their promise to make families self-sufficient instead of offering outside solutions that would fix their problems short term. They do this by making sure both parents are in stable jobs and their children are placed in school. While in Haiti, we got to see first hand how Work functions and what they strive to achieve.
Senior Selected as Candidate in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program
Senior Aydin Turkay has been named one of more than 4,500 candidates in the 2019 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The candidates were selected from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools this year.
In Memoriam: Joyce Ferris, Former Head of Senior School
Joyce Ferris, Ph.D., Head of Sewickley Academy’s Senior School from 1992 until 2004, passed away on December 30, 2018, from complications during hip surgery resulting from a recent fall.
SA again took the field against another section opponent in Neshannock. SA scored early and often in the first half as they tallied 12 goals to take a commanding lead going into half time. The second half saw SA scoring 2 more goals to tally 14 for the game. Scoring goals for SA were: Thomas Yung, Rees Blaylock (2), Alex Gordon (2), Nick Joseph (2), Hussein Haji (2), John DelVecchio, Jack Wentz, and Ben Mohan (3). Playing a strong defensive game were: Jackson Coles, Adam Brown, John DelVecchio, Max Reyes, Jack Duggan and in goal were: Dimitri Gary, Brandon Thompson, and Nick Wilson.
