2022: The First Female Head of School—Ashley (Brown ’00) Birtwell

Following a brief appointment as Interim Head of School, Dr. Ashley (Brown ‘00) Birtwell, with her extensive academic background, was officially hired as the Head of School in February 2022, making her the Academy’s first female head of school in its over 185-year history. Under her leadership, Sewickley Academy has developed innovative programming for students that is complemented by new state-of-the-art computer science, robotics, and esports spaces.
