John Wray, Jr., long interested in reorganizing the school, opened it in 1877 as “An English and Classical School for Boys and Girls,” in the second story of Mozart Hall, now the spot of Wolcott Park. Later, Wray built a new brick building on his property at the corner of Beaver Road and Academy Avenue, now the site of the tennis courts at the Edgeworth Club. After 13 years, Wray left for Europe, and the school did not reopen.
