Softball returned to the Academy in the spring of 2005 in the form of a junior varsity team. A group of dedicated and hard working students in both the high school and middle school have helped to reestablish this program. The team competed successfully at the junior varsity level and began competing at the varsity level in the WPIAL in 2009.
During spring break our team flies to Myrtle Beach to practice and play at the Ripken Experience, a beautiful facility that features four turf softball fields and batting cages.
We practice and play our games on our turf field. We can now practice regularly, and it is a welcome sight to play games on an all turf field. Softball is a sport that requires many skills. Our practices involve multiple drills where we work on the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, catching, as well as the strategies of the game. We have competed in the WPIAL playoffs the past five years, and captured the first section championship in Academy history in 2015.
Our players have experienced strong varsity competition, and they are more than prepared to create a student friendly environment where the players have fun while working hard and enjoying the successes of their teammates.
