Varsity Girls Cross Country
Running is by definition the fastest means for an animal to move on foot. For a runner, cross country is the ultimate challenge - you have to run over difficult terrain in as short a time as possible. Sewickley Academy's Cross Country Team does not just go out there and run, they give people watching something exciting. The wide-ranging landscape of Western Pennsylvania demands a courageous approach for the runner with testing hills, beautiful trail runs, as well as residential neighborhoods. Many students at Sewickley Academy admire the mental determination and aerobic conditioning the sport has to offer and enjoy participating on the team. As the boys and girls numbers continue to grow, so does the success of the program. They embrace winning, competition, and reaching their full potential as athletes.
We make a commitment to train hard and have fun. August marks the beginning of training for the upcoming season. Practices consist of endurance workouts, interval training, and speed drills throughout the week. The cross country team also participates in weight lifting and core building exercises three times a week. The athletes bond while supporting each other throughout practices, especially during a games day where runners are grouped together in order to participate. This is a great way to improve on skills, meet new friends, and gain a positive attitude that can help all through life.
Every runner on the team contributes to the overall success of the team. As individuals bring with them their goals and leave their doubts behind, the team unites to achieve a shared goal. Camaraderie is evident not only through the season but throughout the entire school year as runners show encouragement, display support, and cheer on all team members. Sewickley Academy's Cross Country Team is always willing to go the extra mile, because with teamwork, determination, and effort, you can often achieve more.
