Coach Chiusano brings incredible experience to this position having coached hockey for 23 years in three different states. In his first year as our head coach, he led us back to the PIHL playoffs where we registered a first round upset victory. He is a Level IV
USA Hockey certified coach with experience as an instructor, assistant coach, head coach, and administrator in amateur and high school hockey at the ADM, Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, Midget, Freshman/Middle School,Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels. Having served as a head varsity coach in the PIHL for ten years as well as serving as a committee member, Chris has a great understanding of what it takes to be successful in the PIHL for our hockey program.
Coach Ciccone graduated from Sewickley Academy in 2001 where he played varsity hockey for four years. He continued to play DIII ACHA hockey in college for Vanderbilt University from 2001 - 2004. Coach is a Level III USA Hockey certified coach, having previously helping coach the varsity from 2004 - 2006. The Academy is thrilled to have Josh back this year working with the team!
Coach Curran Dewhirst is a 2009 graduate of the Academy who was a four year letter winner in ice hockey and a key contributor to our 2007 State Championship soccer team. He returns to the Academy to help coach the varsity ice hockey team bring a strong skill set in the area of analytics.
Coach Pessolano is entering his fourteenth year as an assistant coach for the varsity ice hockey team. He earned four varsity letters and served as a captain for Sewickley Academy's ice hockey team. He went on to play four years of club hockey at the University of Dayton. Coach Pessolano has worked as an on-ice instructor in summer hockey camps and in the marketing offices for a number of NHL franchises. Coach Pessolano teaches fifth grade at the Academy.
Varsity Ice Hockey
The SewickleyAcademy athletic program stresses the development of personal and team excellence for our student-athletes. Through participation on our scholastic ice hockey team, student-athletes will be taught valuable life lessons as well as enhance their hockey skills. As such, we have developed a “curriculum” for hockey team members’ athletic and personal development.
