Senior School Whoa!Bots Close Out a Great Season
By: Ben Spicer, Senior School Science and Mathematics Teacher
The Whoa!Bots competed in their final tournament of the season on March 16-18, 2018.
They traveled to Scranton, Pennsylvania, for the First Tech Challenge East Super-Regional Championship where they battled with and against 72 teams from Maine through West Virginia. The team struggled with early qualification matches until making an impressive comeback, earning the respect of top teams and a selection into the playoff rounds. Going into this tournament, the team’s high score was 618 points. The Whoa!Bots earned an amazing 746 points in the first match of the divisional semifinals! Nevertheless, they were outscored by some extraordinary teams, narrowly missing an invitation to the FTC World Championship.
What a season it has been for the Whoa!Bots. They spent many difficult hours perfecting designs and improving codes all while building lasting friendships. The team will remember this experience for many years.
The Whoa!Bots wish to thank everyone who has supported them along the way. They are proud to represent Sewickley Academy.
