I couldn't be more proud. From both our men's and women's side each and every athlete that competed at the WPIAL championship went personal best times. Many dropping multiple seconds in their events raising them up to higher places where they ended up scoring points. Which is what our boys needed this year if we wanted to do well, we needed it to be a team effort and each and every one of our swimmers and our diver stepped up to the plate. We knew going into WPIALs we would have a lot of competition this year. Northgate has grown a very competitive squad and it was their year but I'm very glad we didn't let the WPIAL title go without a fight. Our boys ended up scoring 7 more points than they should have based off of entry places and in total, we ended up scoring more points this year than we did to win WPIALs last year. We ended the meet with 191 points this year (including diving). Andres, by far was who I leaned on the most at this meet. His work ethic and dedication to the sport will take him far and I knew I could trust him when we needed him to dig deep so he anchored both of the relays he was in and had very respectable splits (21.4 and a 48.2). He also placed 4th in the 100 fly and 2nd in the 100 back. Guaranteeing two spots at states. He broke two school records, one was his own (back) and the other was a record from a QV Hall of Famer from 1994, Kevin Langer, (Fly)!! Kevin also was a big player in our performance. He scored 10th in his 100 free and 5th in the 100 breast, with a season-best time in his 100 breast and a life time best in the free. He also was a huge part of both of our relays that will continue onto states, splitting a 27.1 in his 50 breast and a 50.2 FS in 100 free for the relay. Ben, Declan, Devon, and Keiran all did an incredible job. Each of them dropped tremendous time moving themselves up in the rankings in the process. Ben dropped a 1/2 second in his 100 free and two full seconds in his 100 back, moving him up to a 10th place finish and was a big part of our 200 MR and 200 FR Relay, splitting a 26.6 in his 50 back and a 22.9 in his free. Declan dropped 4 seconds in his 100 fly this season and split 1/2 second faster in the relay than he ever has and got his 50 free down to a 23.4 relay split as well. Devon dropped a second in his 100 fly, 2 in his 100 free and had fabulous splits in both of his relays (22.9 and a 49.89!!!). Kieran dropped 3 seconds in his 200 FR moving him up to 10th and 4 seconds in his 100 breast moving him to 14th, his split in both relays were also right on (22.6 and a 49.9 !!!). I couldn't talk about our men's team without mentioning all of the great work Simon was able to accomplish this year, with the help of coach Haley, as a freshman he was able to place 5th at the diving competition last week and will be traveling to states with the team.

Go Panthers!
