Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a joyous time to remember those who have passed away. In Mexico, ancient Aztec traditions were combined with Christianity during the Spanish conquest. As a result, each year families construct colorful altars or ofrendas in their homes that essentially welcome the spirit of their loved ones on November 1st and 2nd.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation Names Six Seniors as Commended Students
The National Merit Scholarship Program recognized six seniors for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
Three Students Named Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Program
Three students from Sewickley Academy have been named finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).
On Monday, February 5, 2018, officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of approximately 15,000 finalists who are being considered for close to 7,500 Merit Scholarships in the 63rd annual program. The Academy’s finalists are Emmy Francek, Cole Luther, and Pranav Mulgund.
Each of these academically talented high school seniors received a Certificate of Merit. In March, the NMSP will begin mailing scholarship offers to the winners’ homes.
