Senior School Robotics Whoa!Bots Win First Place in FIRST Relic Recovery Tournament

By: Ben Spicer, Senior School Science and Mathematics Teacher

After a second place finish in the finals on January 13, the Whoa!Bots Senior School Robotics team bounced back with a big win at the FIRST Relic Recovery Western Maryland Qualifying Tournament on January 27.

The Whoa!Bots finished with a perfect 9-0 record in the tournament outscoring all opponents 3192-1689. One particular match earned them 578 points, which was, at the time, thought to be the second highest score in the world! The team wowed the crowd with their efficiency at completing all tasks in the game, however, it was the reliability of placing the relics in the recovery zone that made them unbeatable. Collecting the trophy late Saturday evening was a joyous moment for a team who has worked incredibly hard over the past year.

The team now advances to the Maryland/DC FTC Championship in Baltimore, Maryland later this month.

Congratulations! Way to go Whoa!Bots!
