Senior School Robotics Whoa!Bots Team Earns an Impressive Finish

By: Ben Spicer, Senior School Science and Mathematics Teacher

The Senior School Robotics team, named the Whoa!Bots, competed in the Southwestern Pennsylvania FIRST Tech Challenge on Saturday, January 13. In a year of extraordinary growth, the Whoa!Bots fell just short of winning the tournament, earning a remarkable second place finish in the Finalist Alliance out of the 21 teams that entered the competition.

The team worked tirelessly throughout the fall and over the winter break to optimize their robot for peak performance. They were masters at autonomously removing the jewel and stacking the glyphs. The Whoa!Bots amazed the crowd all day with their robot’s ability to dominate the end game and recover the relics. Despite accumulating a total of 2,835 points overall, they were outscored in the final two matches by a margin of only 78 points, thus, keeping them from advancing to the Pennsylvania state championship. Nevertheless, this accomplishment marks an impressive high point in the Senior School robotics program. Congratulations to all involved!

The next competition will take place in Garrett County, Maryland, later this month. Winners of this tournament advance to the Maryland/DC FTC Championship.

Whoa!Bots, we’re cheering you on to victory!
