Middle School Student Wins First Place in Pennsylvania at the National History Day Competition
Grade 8 student Roshni Thakkar won first place in the Junior Individual Website Category of the National History Day (NHD) Competition for Pennsylvania. Her project was called “Nelson Mandela: A Conflicting Journey to Justice.”
Grade 8 students have been engaging their hearts, minds, and hands in the service of a greater good during their year-long humanities work. On Monday, May 21, they presented their culminating capstone project – The Museum of Citizen Action – to the entire Sewickley Academy community.
SA Inducts Twelve New Members into the Cum Laude Society
On May 21, 2018, Sewickley Academy’s Senior School gathered in Rea Auditorium to honor the academic, athletic, and artistic achievements of students during the annual Awards Ceremony which included an induction presentation for the newest members of the Cum Laude Society.
Sewickley Academy rallied around its seniors for a convincing 6-1 win on Senior Day against Ellis. All six of the goals were scored by seniors. Olivia Ryder had a hat trick, Marynell Dethero added two more including one penalty kick, and defender-temporarily-turned-forward Lu Gillespie finished a beautiful breakaway. Even on a slippery field, Sewickley maintained possession and calmly connected passes in their offensive half. With the win, Sewickley moved to 10-3-2 on the season and is seeking one more important section win next week.
