Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a joyous time to remember those who have passed away. In Mexico, ancient Aztec traditions were combined with Christianity during the Spanish conquest. As a result, each year families construct colorful altars or ofrendas in their homes that essentially welcome the spirit of their loved ones on November 1st and 2nd.
Sewickley Academy rallied around its seniors for a convincing 6-1 win on Senior Day against Ellis. All six of the goals were scored by seniors. Olivia Ryder had a hat trick, Marynell Dethero added two more including one penalty kick, and defender-temporarily-turned-forward Lu Gillespie finished a beautiful breakaway. Even on a slippery field, Sewickley maintained possession and calmly connected passes in their offensive half. With the win, Sewickley moved to 10-3-2 on the season and is seeking one more important section win next week.
