Middle School Student Wins First Place in Pennsylvania at the National History Day Competition
Grade 8 student Roshni Thakkar won first place in the Junior Individual Website Category of the National History Day (NHD) Competition for Pennsylvania. Her project was called “Nelson Mandela: A Conflicting Journey to Justice.”
Grade 8 students have been engaging their hearts, minds, and hands in the service of a greater good during their year-long humanities work. On Monday, May 21, they presented their culminating capstone project – The Museum of Citizen Action – to the entire Sewickley Academy community.
SA Inducts Twelve New Members into the Cum Laude Society
On May 21, 2018, Sewickley Academy’s Senior School gathered in Rea Auditorium to honor the academic, athletic, and artistic achievements of students during the annual Awards Ceremony which included an induction presentation for the newest members of the Cum Laude Society.
Sewickley Academy showed poise and composure in their 2-1 defeat of Winchester Thurston on Wednesday. Olivia Ryder scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Lekha Amin. Amin then scored the second goal by chipping an arching ball from a deflection off the goalie after a shot by Marynell Dethero. Winchester eventually poked in a goal with only 9 seconds left in the first half to keep the game close. After a scoreless second half, Sewickley earned the 2-1 victory. With the win, Sewickley moves to 7-1-2 on the season.
