Middle School Student Wins First Place in Pennsylvania at the National History Day Competition
Grade 8 student Roshni Thakkar won first place in the Junior Individual Website Category of the National History Day (NHD) Competition for Pennsylvania. Her project was called “Nelson Mandela: A Conflicting Journey to Justice.”
Grade 8 students have been engaging their hearts, minds, and hands in the service of a greater good during their year-long humanities work. On Monday, May 21, they presented their culminating capstone project – The Museum of Citizen Action – to the entire Sewickley Academy community.
SA Inducts Twelve New Members into the Cum Laude Society
On May 21, 2018, Sewickley Academy’s Senior School gathered in Rea Auditorium to honor the academic, athletic, and artistic achievements of students during the annual Awards Ceremony which included an induction presentation for the newest members of the Cum Laude Society.
Sewickley Academy cruised to a 5-0 victory on Wednesday against The Ellis School. Ellis showed early power and speed up top, but Sewickley soon countered and established dominance. By connecting passes and pinning the ball in their offensive half, Sewickley was able to finish two goals in two minutes. Both of these goals came from Elsa Gordon and were assisted by Olivia Ryder and Marynell Dethero respectively. In the second half Ryder added two more goals and assisted freshman JJ Jardini’s first goal of the season. With the win, Sewickley moves to 5-1-1 on the season.
