Grade 6 Student Honored by Johns Hopkins for Academic Excellence
By: Madison Weaver, Media and Communications Intern
Grade 6 student Daniel was honored as one of the brightest young students in the world at a recent awards ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CYT). A participant in the CTY Talent Search, Daniel scored exceptionally high on a rigorous, above-grade-level test.
The CTY Talent Search is an opportunity for students in Grades 2 through 8 to take challenging tests that can show a student’s true capacity for learning. Grade 7 and 8 participants take the SAT or ACT exams used in college admissions, advanced versions of the Spatial Battery Test (STB), or the School and College Ability Test (SCAT).
More than 27,000 students from over 65 countries participated in the CTY Talent Search between March 2016 and February 2017. Daniel was one of just 6,700 students from all age groups worldwide to earn highest honors and be invited to the CTY award ceremonies.
“We congratulate all of our CTY Talent Search honorees for their hard work and academic achievement,” said Elaine Tuttle Hansen, executive director of CTY, said in a press release. “This is a moment not just to celebrate our students, but to honor the parents and educators who recognized their academic talent and provided them with opportunities to develop it.”
Daniel and his parents attended a regional ceremony on Saturday, June 3, at Duquesne University where Daniel and Sewickley Academy were honored for his achievements.
