Sewickley Academy Junior Honored in Slippery Rock University Instagram Drawing Contest
Just one week after receiving an award from the Congressional Art Competition, Junior Priya Melonio has “stroked” again, selected as a winner in the Slippery Rock University Instagram Drawing Contest.
High school students submitted photos of their work to the contest using the Instagram hashtag #srudraw. Submissions were judged by the Slippery Rock University art department faculty for exemplary work in imagination, technique, and clear documentation.
Priya was selected as one of 20 students honored by the contest and will receive a sketchbook. After hearing about the contest from her private drawing teacher and her parents, Priya submitted 10 different works created in pre-college drawing classes at Carnegie Mellon University.
“It is very exciting to win!” Priya said. In the future, she plans to enter more contests and hopes to begin a portfolio for AP Art.
