Track and Field Completes Successful Season WPIAL Championships
On Wednesday eight of our track and field athletes competed at the WPIAL Class 2A Championships held at Slippery Rock University. Senior Kevin Savage had a busy day with 3 events, coming 16th in the triple jump (36'9.75"), 10th in the 400-meter dash (53.32 s), and leading the boys 4x400-meter relay team to a 12th-place finish (3:44.86 min). Also on this team were senior Mikai Thomas, junior Lincoln Riddle, and freshmen Josh Okorafor. The girls 4x800-meter relay team were able to hit a team-best time of 11:21.28 min for 16th place. This was even more remarkable as junior Olivia Park got injured mid-race but still gutted out a finish with the help and support of her teammates, junior Maddie Wren, sophomore Jayne Miner, and freshmen Selena Xiao. With her injury, Olivia was unable to compete in her open 800-meter run later in the day, but she still kept her spirits high supporting the boys in their later events.
Congratulations to our athletes on a successful season in being one of the top-16 runners/teams in the WPIAL!
