Middle School Teacher Selected as a Winner of a Gilder Lehrman Institute Contest
Middle School history teacher Kate Lukaszewicz was selected as one of the 10 winners of the Gilder Lehrman Institute’s inaugural "American History in 100 Documents: An Innovative Curriculum Contest."
According to a press release, teachers who participated in the contest were asked to create a lesson plan using one or more primary source documents in American History: 1493-1945, which provides K-12 schools, universities, and institutions – including Harvard, Yale, and the Library of Congress – access to tens of thousands of rare letters, artwork, broadsides, and maps spanning six centuries of American history.
Kate picked a historic document from the institute's digitalized collection and developed a lesson plan based on that document for the contest. Her lesson is entitled, "If You Pay Taxes, Should You Get to Vote?"
As a winner, she will receive a cash prize and a one-year subscription to American History: 1493-1945, the fully digitized Gilder Lehrman Collection. The lesson plan will be available on the Gilder Lehrman Institute website for teachers who are members of the Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School network.
