Grade 7 Student Performs with the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic & Chorus
On Sunday, February 23, Middle School student Rishul Sharma performed at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) School of Music’s Philharmonic & Chorus concert at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland.
The seventh grader got involved in the performance through the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus, which he is a member of. “I enjoy singing because I like to perform in front of an audience,” he said. Rishul rehearsed for a week with Shawn Funk, one of the teachers at the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus, and then with the group at CMU for a week.
The preparation was challenging and gave him the opportunity to sing a solo with the chorus. “It was hard to learn my part because the song was in Hebrew, so I had to learn Hebrew words for the song. I did a solo with the choir and sang three times in the piece,” he shared.
In addition to singing with the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus, Rishul enjoys performing in musicals and concerts here at Sewickley Academy.
