Junior to Sing the National Anthem at the WPIAL Basketball Championships
Junior Felicia Niebel will sing the National Anthem at the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) Basketball Championships at the Petersen Events Center this Friday, February 28, at 5:00 p.m.
In a letter to Felicia informing her that she was selected to sing at the championship, WPIAL Associate Executive Director Amy Scheuneman wrote, “The WPIAL is pleased to have you as a valued part of the basketball championship at the Peterson Events Center. We hope that you have an enjoyable and meaningful experience.”
Felicia has sung the National Anthem for years at Sewickley Academy boys and girls home basketball games. Sewickley Academy’s Athletic Director Win Palmer recommended Felicia for the audition process, which included a video submission. “We had one other singer chosen a number of years ago, and it's so beautiful that Felicia has been awarded this honor. She has been outstanding in her singing prior to our girls and boys varsity home basketball games these past three years, and now she will have this opportunity on the big stage,” he said.
“I am very excited and nervous for this opportunity,” Felicia shared. “This is one of the biggest opportunities I have had to sing the National Anthem and I couldn’t be more excited,” she exclaimed.
