Senior Named a Semifinalist in the Coca-Cola Scholars Program

Luke Tyson, a senior at Sewickley Academy, was named a semifinalist in the 2020 Coca-Cola Scholars Program (CCSP).

The CCSP is an achievement-based scholarship that recognizes student-leaders who are committed to serving and making an impact in their communities and schools. The program, offered through the Coca-Cola Scholarship Foundation, is open to high school students graduating during the current school year. According to the foundation’s website, it supports more than 1,400 exceptional college students each year, with annual scholarships of $3.55 million awarded through three nationally recognized programs.

Luke learned about the scholarship through a friend he met in the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y). “My NSLI-Y friend, who traveled abroad on the same Department of State scholarship, when I went to India and she went to Jordan, had won it this past cycle and is currently a student at Washington University in St. Louis,” Luke said.

The 1,928 semifinalists were selected from over 93,000 applicants from across the country to continue in the competition. Those students are required to submit another application that will be reviewed by the CCSP Reading Committee in January. Two hundred and fifty students will advance as regional finalists, and ultimately 150 of them will each be awarded a $20,000 scholarship as Coca-Cola Scholars.

Cheers, Luke!
