A truly outstanding event was held today jointly by the WPIAL and the Allegheny Country Club! There were many talented golfers in the field which made it even more fun for our golfers as four of the five golfers advanced to the PIAA Individual Semifinals, and the one player who did not advance missed a playoff by just one stroke.
Navin was the first on the team to finish his round, shooting a 7 over par 77 to finish 8th. Will was the second SA finisher as he shot an 86 just missing the playoff. Joey shot an 82, finishing tied for 14th. Tim finished fourth with a 4 over par 74.
JF was playing in the final group with two outstanding golfers, Aidan Bulger from QV and Skyler Fox from Riverside. Skyler entered the tournament as the three time WPIAL Champion. The three seniors played solid golf on the front nine with JF in second place at 1 under par and Skyler third at even par. By hole 14, it had become a dual between Skyler and JF. JF made a terrific up and down for par on 17 which Skyler followed with a birdie to move the margin to JF leading by 2 entering the difficult 18th.
After both players blasted lengthy drives in the middle of the fairway, each of them hit wedges which spun off the diabolical green. JF chipped first and left himself 15 feet above the pin. Skyler nearly chipped in as he hit the pin. JF's first putt rolled 6 feet feet below the pin meaning he needed to make or else there would be a playoff. Years of practice paid off as he calmly ran the putt into the hole to earn the WPIAL Individual Championship with an even par 70!
