Four Senior School Students Receive Awards for the National Latin Exam
In March, four Senior School Latin students took the 2019 National Latin Exam along with approximately 135,000 students from all 50 states and 20 countries and performed above the national average.
Sophomore Joshua and freshman Gary earned gold medals and Summa Cum Laude certificates. Freshman Sarah, earned a silver medal and a Maxima Cum Laude certificate, and sophomore Tim received a Magna Cum Laude certificate.
“Our students participated by choice, took time out of their schedules to take the exam, and all did very well,” said Senior School Latin Teacher Ms. Sesame Zamora. “All performed above the national average on the exam.” According to the organization, “Awards are based upon the annual, national average for each separate exam.”
The National Latin Exam, sponsored by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League, is a 40-question, multiple-choice test with a time limit of 45 minutes. The test is offered to students on seven levels: Introduction to Latin, Latin I, Latin II, Latin III, Latin III/IV Prose, Latin III/IV Poetry, and Latin V/VI+.
