What do you want your students to take away from having known you?
I want them to know that each of them is good, special, and worthwhile. That they are all capable of success. I also want them to discover that learning is fun.
Who are your mentors?
My colleagues are my mentors. There are so many talented teachers at this school. I always feel supported and energized by observing them and sharing teaching ideas and strategies.
What interests you outside the classroom?
Well certainly my home life keeps me busy with my husband, twin daughters, and my two Old English Sheepdogs! I also love to read and for years took ballroom dancing lessons.
How do you apply the latest learning research in your subject/class?
I attended Responsive Classroom training and now use it in my classroom. The daily morning meetings include several components designed to build social skills, communication skills, and community. The children delight in sharing personal stories, greeting each other, and playing social games. I believe that this program is quite successful at creating a supportive, cohesive, and responsive group of kindergarteners!
