Grade 8 student Roshni Thakkar won first place in the Junior Individual Website Category of the National History Day (NHD) Competition for Pennsylvania. Her project was called “Nelson Mandela: A Conflicting Journey to Justice.”

Grade 8 students have been engaging their hearts, minds, and hands in the service of a greater good during their year-long humanities work. On Monday, May 21, they presented their culminating capstone project – The Museum of Citizen Action – to the entire Sewickley Academy community.
On May 21, 2018, Sewickley Academy’s Senior School gathered in Rea Auditorium to honor the academic, athletic, and artistic achievements of students during the annual Awards Ceremony which included an induction presentation for the newest members of the Cum Laude Society.
Grade 10 honors chemistry students Tim Han and Erin Mahoney took the annual two-hour competitive exam sponsored by the Pittsburgh Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) on April 7, earning first and second prize, respectively, in the small school division.
Junior Linsey Szabo's critical essay "Light and Dark" was awarded a Gold Key at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards national competition. Her piece focuses on social media and how it affects interpersonal relationships.
On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, renowned presidential historian and author Jon Meacham addressed a large crowd in Rea Auditorium to talk about the “Art of Leadership: Lessons from the American Presidency.”
Srimayi Mulukutla and Prateek Adurty both won first place prizes with perfect scores in their respective categories at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) Competition on February 3, 2018, at Duquesne University.

The Senior School Robotics team, named the Whoa!Bots, competed in the Southwestern Pennsylvania FIRST Tech Challenge on Saturday, January 13. In a year of extraordinary growth, the Whoa!Bots fell just short of winning the tournament, earning a remarkable second place finish in the Finalist Alliance out of the 21 teams that entered the competition.
