Adult Class

Dates: August 1 – 5
Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Fee: $250.00

Whether you’re just getting started or consider yourself an amateur genealogist, this course is for you. This course focuses on creating or expanding one’s family tree, gaining an understanding of how to locate and analyze census, vital, and military records from various subscription databases (available on campus), as well as developing strategies to learn more about one’s ancestors beyond names, dates, and locations. This course encourages participants to bring their own device, though we have limited ones to use if needed. While new concepts will be introduced via lecture, most of the time will be devoted to research under the guidance of the instructor.

Additional Information:
Genealogy is the study of our ancestors, or relatives who are no longer with us. Due to privacy laws, students are unable to research living relatives. If participants only have information for living relatives, they will need help from their families to go back further into their tree. If families are interested, but concerned about their abilities to go back due to lack of record keeping, knowledge, or recent immigration (international online records are limited), participants can study a famous person's genealogy.
