~ Glenis and Glen, Grade 12 Parents

"These unprecedented days, occurring as our youngest daughter prepares to graduate, have given our family time to reflect on the senior school that has been there for both our girls over the past four years."

Under the best of circumstances, we imagine there are continuous challenges in running a school like Sewickley Academy. Given the current climate, the prospect of navigating these uncharted waters must have seemed overwhelming. However, from a parent perspective, Sewickley Academy has worked hard to provide stability and support while ensuring the continued growth and learning for the students during this pandemic.

Like a paddleboat on the rivers, Sewickley Academy is a massive establishment propelled by a wheel that is only partially visible. We see the effort of communication that steadily streams to students and families. We see the malleability of teachers continuing lessons online to keep students on track and spirits lifted. We see thoughtfulness and empathy in many ways to a senior class that will not have the opportunities other classes have taken for granted. In addition, we see students adjusting as best they can, staying resilient and learning lessons – life lessons they’ll never forget.

What isn’t seen, we presume, are the endless hours of researching, meetings, strategizing, preparation, and learning by administration, faculty, staff, and Board Members: planning, amending, contingency planning, etc. Although mostly out of view, you keep us moving forward, and we thank you.

When the school closed over a month ago, we didn’t feel anxious because our previous years of experience with the Academy left us confident that our daughter would be in good, steady hands. That feeling remains. Yes, there have been some learning curves, but other institutions of education, sadly, have not fared nearly as well during this time for a variety of reasons – a reminder of how fortunate we are to be part of an incredibly strong, thoughtful, and supportive school.

We are so glad our daughter will be a graduate of the Sewickley Academy Class of 2020. Thank you and best wishes as you move forward during these uncharted times.
