Transportation

There are two types of transportation available to Sewickley Academy families. If you have any questions about the transportation options available for your child, please contact Suzi Peluso, Director of Transportation, at (412) 741-2230 x3008 or speluso@sewickley.org.

I. If your public school district is within a 10-mile radius of Sewickley Academy:

You are eligible to receive free busing from your home school district if it provides transportation to its students (PA State Law). The following districts are within 10 miles of Sewickley Academy and provide students with busing:

Aliquippa
Ambridge
Avonworth
Central Valley
Cornell
Freedom
Hopewell
Montour
Moon
North Allegheny
North Hills
Pittsburgh Public
Quaker Valley
Sto Rox
West Allegheny

  • There are no activity buses in the evening.
  • The law applies to students in Grades K-12 only. No Pre-K students will be transported.
  • There is no Kindergarten transportation at the noontime dismissal.
  • All routes, pick-up and drop-off locations, and schedules are made by individual school districts. The duration of the bus trip is determined solely by the school districts.

II. If your public school district is outside of the 10-mile radius of Sewickley Academy:

There are three private buses that service the following areas for an additional fee.

North Hills Area (1 Route) – Cranberry Township, Treesdale, Gibsonia, Bradford Woods, Franklin Park, Wexford, Mars

South Hills Area (2 Routes) – Nevillewood (Presto), Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, South Fayette, Peters Township, Canonsburg, Southpointe

  • There is a yearly fee to ride these buses.
  • There are activity buses that leave school at 6:10 pm.
  • Private buses transport students in Grades Pre-K-12.
  • There is no Kindergarten transportation at the noontime dismissal.

III. What happens with bus transportation during Winter Weather?

Because Sewickley Academy draws students from such a wide area, it is difficult to make a single decision that takes into account all road conditions. Everyone should remember that your family's personal safety is of paramount importance. In inclement weather, please use your best judgment about deciding whether it is safe for your child(ren) to travel to school. In the case that you decide you should not risk the journey, please call your appropriate Division Office to let them know your child(ren) will be late or absent. Students who are bused to school should be aware of the following.

Students who use their local school district’s transportation:
  • If your school district calls a delay and Sewickley Academy does not, you will need to provide alternative transportation to school. If you are unable to do so, your child(ren) will follow that district's delay schedule and take a later bus.
  • If the Academy calls a delay and your school district does not, your school district will follow their regular daily bus schedule, so you will need to find alternative transportation to the Academy. Plan to have your child(ren) arrive at the time designated by the Academy’s schedule.
  • If your district calls a cancellation and the Academy does not, your district feels it is unsafe to transport students, so you will need to find alternative transportation to drop off your child(ren) in the morning and pick up your child(ren) after school.
Students who use Sewickley Academy’s private transportation:
  • Our private North Hills and South Hills vehicles follow the Academy’s delay and cancellation schedule.
"We have three children in three different grades. Prior to coming to the Academy, this meant running to different schools each morning and afternoon, all with different start and dismissal times. At SA, our morning drop-off at 8 am is the same for all three of our kids and could not be easier."
