SA Participates in Remake Learning Days 2017

Come Explore the Sun!

Come Explore the Sun at Sewickley Academy on May 23, 2017! Attendees will learn about the importance of solar science through the Carnegie Science Center's SolarQuest Hour-Long Adventure. In addition, there will be demonstrations on safe solar viewing and observations on solar telescopes as well as tips and tricks to safely track sunspots. Participants will receive a cool pair of eclipse viewing glasses in preparation for the great American total solar eclipse in August.

Our sun is widely known to be a potential source of alternative energy, but many are unaware of the incredible research being done to understand how our host star was born and how it continues to change. Studying the sun requires a variety of methods of inquiry that include tracking sunspots and measuring insolation on the Antarctic ice sheets. Collectively, these investigations provide us a better understanding of the Earth-Sun system and stars in general.
