Encouraging a Love of Literature in Your Student

Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Join Anna Foust and Ruth Neely to consider a variety of strategies for empowering your student to develop an identity as a reader. Topics explored will include the benefits of increased reading time, the parent's role in finding the right book, and promoting reading in the home.

Ruth Neely

Ruth Neely is the Director of Libraries at Sewickley Academy. Ruth completed her Master of Library and Information Science with K-12 Library Certification at the University of Pittsburgh. In her 5th year at Sewickley, Ruth is also an active member in the steering committee of Western Pennsylvania School Library Association, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Assemble, an organization offering free STEAM programming to under-served youth in her neighborhood. In all she does, Ruth aims to include an element of art, a DIY attitude, and an awareness of diversity and inclusion.

Anna Foust

Anna Foust is the Grade 6 English Teacher and Middle School English Department Chair at Sewickley Academy. Anna has a BA from Harvard University and an MST from Fordham University. This is her 12th year teaching and 8th year at Sewickley Academy. Recent professional development includes the Reading Institute at The Teachers College, Columbia University. As an educator, Anna harnesses student choice to differentiate her instruction and motivate all learners to develop a love of reading.

Join four Sewickley Academy faculty with knowledge about this powerful online video game - its fun aspects and addictive qualities. They will share information on how the game is played, why it is so attractive to students as young as Grade 2 through high school and beyond, and provide some cautions for players and parents.

College Search 101

Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

Andrea Satariano, the Director of College Guidance, will share what to expect when searching for the right fit college or university.

Independent School Financial Aid

Tuesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

Andrew McMillen, the Director of Admissions & Financial Aid, will discuss the independent school financial process.
