Merit Scholarship Program
Sewickley Academy offers merit scholarships for prospective students entering Grades 6–9. The merit scholarships, which are not based on a family's financial need, will range from $2,500 to $10,000 per year. Scholarships are renewable annually through Grade 12, as long as a student continues to meet the scholarship criteria. The number of scholarships offered and the subsequent amounts will be determined by the Merit Scholarship Committee each year.
Prospective families who are interested in being considered for a merit scholarship need to complete the online merit scholarship application after they have completed their admissions application on the MySewickley portal. The merit scholarship application requires the following, some of which includes documents submitted for the admissions application:
The deadline for the first round of merit scholarship consideration is February 10, 2020. All completed merit scholarship applications that also have completed admissions applications by February 10 will be notified of the Merit Scholarship Committee’s decision on March 2. Rolling applications will be accepted from March 2 through August 1, but it is highly recommended that students apply during the first round.
- Teacher recommendations
- Exam scores from the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)
- Academic performance at the student’s previous school(s)
- Participation in school activities
- Admissions essays
- Merit scholarship application essays

When will families be notified about merit scholarship decisions?
The first round of notifications will occur on March 2, 2020, and rolling notifications will occur through August 1. All recipients of a merit scholarship will be provided the amount of the scholarship upon notification. -
One of my children is already enrolled at Sewickley Academy. Am I allowed to apply for a merit scholarship for my younger child who is currently going through the admissions process?
Yes. Although a family may not be new to Sewickley Academy, all new students applying to Grades 6–9 are eligible to apply for a merit scholarship. -
Will students who are returning to Sewickley Academy be allowed to apply for a merit scholarship?
No. Students must be new to the Academy in order to receive a merit scholarship. -
Once merit scholarships are granted and accepted, what are the criteria for students to maintain the awards through graduation?
In order for students to remain eligible to continue to receive the award through graduation, they must:- Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Be positive contributors to the life of the school and/or community through sports, service, leadership positions, and student clubs and organizations
- Not be placed on academic probation or warning nor have any major disciplinary infractions

Can I apply for a merit scholarship and the need-based financial aid program?
Yes, you can. Although, the programs are completely separate and require different applications. Please make sure you look at the criteria for each application. Contact the Admissions Office with any questions.
