Spirit of Community Thanksgiving Food Drive is a Success

By: LaVern Burton, Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Service Learning

Students, faculty, staff, and Academy families gave generously to the Spirit of Giving Food Drive, which benefited St. Vincent de Paul’s Good Samaritan Food Pantry.

This year, the Academy raised $739.00 to purchase 35 12-pound turkeys from Safran's Supermarket in Sewickley at wholesale price. The balance was donated to help purchase perishable items for families. Donations from Sewickley Academy will make a difference in the lives of 40 families (139 people). The community’s generosity will carry their food needs throughout the month of December.

Lower School student counsel representatives, Grade 8 students, and Senior School students worked hard to pack and unpack three vans of food. Head of Lower School Dr. Cricket Mikheev, Head of Senior School Dr. Peter Lau, and PE teacher Mr. Derek Chimner drove the vans and helped deliver the donations.

Thank you to all who donated and helped make this event a success!
