Role Model: “Definitely both of my parents. They’re immigrants from England and have worked so hard to give me a good life and have shown me the importance of fighting for what you want.”
Favorite thing about SA: “ Two things come to mind. I love the opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. There are so many options at every level and this makes SA stand out. Spotlight: Meet Sewickley Academy Senior, Jayden Garcha. A dedicated hockey player since the age of 8, Jayden has played a crucial role in the revival of the hockey program at Sewickley Academy during his senior year where he leads the team as captain. Jayden recalls learning that hockey was returning as being an exhilarating moment as he prepared for his senior year. “I am grateful to lead these players and set the program up for the future. Right now we are building skills and the roots of Sewickley Academy Hockey. The team is so hard working and up for a challenge and I love that.” he said. He credits his coach, Donato Fanelle, for believing in him and shaping him into the player he is. Jayden’s passion for hockey extends to the Arctic Foxes, a travel hockey team that provides the opportunity to play year-round and travel the country. Stepping off of the ice, Jayden continues to demonstrate his athleticism as a member of the Sewickley Academy soccer and tennis teams. But beyond being a three-sport athlete, Jayden’s dedication extends to his other passions as well. As part of an exploration into a future in healthcare, he completed a comprehensive phlebotomy course in Summer 2023 and brought attention to men’s mental health by starting a Men’s Health Awareness Club during his Junior year. Somehow he finds the time to express his musical talent as a saxophone player, participating in the Sewickley Academy Jazz Ensemble. Jayden’s leadership positions, as a member of the Honor Council, President of the Ping Pong Club, and an active participant in Science Club and Science Buddies reinforce the fact that he is well prepared to transition to the next phase of his journey. He has not only excelled academically and athletically but has also made lasting contributions to the Sewickley Academy community through his leadership, dedication, and passion.
