SA Welcomes Fifth Annual Perse Exchange
By: Judy Stewart, Global Studies Program Coordinator
Throughout March, four Sewickley Academy freshman, Katie Jones, Shray Sharma, Maeve Donohue, and Isabel Straka, along with their faculty chaperone, Kalyn Currie, prepared to welcome four students from The Perse School in Cambridge, England.
Along with their chaperone, Carl Cerny, Samantha Ball, Faron Heaphy, Theodora Ghiorghiu, and Ben Neuberger were eagerly met by their SA partners on the evening of April 4 at the Pittsburgh airport. The students had been communicating for over a month prior to meeting in person, so they were ready to hit the ground running with early morning classes the next day.
Since then, the visitors have had the chance to participate in the Day of Service, had a tour of the school, met the Head of School, toured Amish Country and attended a Pirates game. A three-day trip to Washington, D.C. was a highlight of their stay in the U.S. The group also spent a day touring Pittsburgh, visiting places throughout town including SportsWorks and Primanti Brothers.
Many thanks go out to the host families who opened their homes to welcome the visitors from “across the pond.”
SA faculty member Kalyn Currie will accompany the SA students to Cambridge this June, where they will have the opportunity to be hosted at the homes of their Perse School partner. This exchange continues to be successful because of the active participation by many on campus.
