700 Students to Participate in Fourth Annual Day of Service
On Friday, April 10, 2015, Sewickley Academy will engage in a full school day committed to service projects both on and off the campus.
On Friday, April 10, 2015, Sewickley Academy will engage in its fourth annual Day of Service. This is a full school day committed to service projects both on and off the campus.
This event marks Sewickley Academy’s multiple efforts, throughout the year, to serve the greater Pittsburgh Community.Sewickley Academy Students, administrators, and faculty work with community partners to plan the Day of Service. In addition to on-campus projects, volunteers will travel off campus to work with various service organizations to make a positive impact on issues regarding the environment, social justice, hunger, and poverty.
This year’s on-campus projects will include working and planting in Sewickley Academy’s Secret Garden on Hazel Lane, writing letters to military personnel through the Hugs for Heroes organization, raising awareness of children with life threatening illnesses, and engaging in campaign efforts for St. Jude’s Research Hospital and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Off-campus projects include service work with the following organizations: Light of Life Ministries, Susan G. Komen, Fern Hollow Nature Center, Bethlehem Haven, Gwen’s Girls, the American Red Cross, Sisters of St. Joseph-Miriam’s’ Garden, Villa St. Joseph, World Vision, Life’s Work, Pittsburgh Botanical Garden, The Pittsburgh Project, Education Partnership, Mary Robert Reinhardt Park, and the East End Cooperative Ministries.
