Seniors Receive National Merit Honors
The 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program names five Academy seniors as Semifinalists and five as Commended Students.
Five Sewickley Academy students were recognized as Commended Students by the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise and will receive Letters of Commendation from their school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, they placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 competition by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Earlier in September, five Sewickley Academy students were named Semifinalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have the opportunity to continue in the competition - along with 16,000 other Semifinalists - for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $33 million, that will be offered this spring.
In addition, senior Nicolas Thompson-Lleras is among 5,000 students nationwide who were named National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars. Although the NHRP does not provide a financial reward, being named is an important academic recognition. The list of scholars is made available to colleges and universities that are particularly interested in academically exceptional Hispanic/Latino students.
Congratulations to this group for their recognition!
