Home & School Association

The Home & School Association is a 501(c) (3) charitable and educational organization with a mission to support the education of the children at Sewickley Academy by fostering relationships among parents, faculty, and the administration.
Home & School membership includes all parents, legal guardians, and other persons standing "in loco parentis" with a child or children enrolled and attending Sewickley Academy, as well as all members of the faculty, staff, and administration of Sewickley Academy.

The Home and School Association supports Sewickley Academy in several ways:

Enhancing Student Life

Volunteers act as homeroom parents to organize holiday and graduation celebrations, assist faculty with special events, help with administrative duties, provide final exam refreshments, and spearhead teacher appreciation initiatives. Volunteers also assist in the libraries.

Grants for Innovative Frameworks in Teaching (G.I.F.T.)

Grants for Innovative Frameworks in Teaching (G.I.F.T.) is a new initiative developed collaboratively with the Home and School Association and SA teachers and administrators to provide teachers with a mechanism that will allow them to capture unexpected opportunities for innovative, interdisciplinary projects, especially where collaboration and experiential learning are the focus and student learning goes above and beyond daily classroom practice and experience. Teachers may apply for G.I.F.T. funding online using the G.I.F.T. Form.

Fundraising

Three major fundraisers are held each year to enable us to support the mission of Sewickley Academy.

  • Book Sales
  • School Picture Day
Funds raised support Sewickley Academy in a variety of ways: facilities improvements, enhancement of the library collections, instructional technology upgrades, faculty/staff holiday gifts, division head educational discretionary funds, and Sewickley Academy annual and capital campaign funds.

Addressing Social Issues

The Issues and Education Committee actively participates with Youth Connect, a group of concerned adults from a variety of schools and organizations in the Sewickley area who are working to provide the information, resources, and support our young people need to avoid risky behaviors and enjoy their teen years. Youth Connect conducts a series of community forums where speakers are brought in to address "non-academic" issues that children and parents face throughout the school-age years.

Recognizing Faculty and Staff

A series of annual events recognize the contribution of the faculty and staff to the education of our children: Welcome Back Faculty Luncheon, Maintenance Crew Luncheon, and Spring Appreciation Lunch.

Get Involved

Getting involved with the Home & School Association is easy and fun! Opportunities are available to fit every schedule, whether during the day, the evening, or on weekends. Most opportunities take place at the school, but some may be accomplished from home or the office.

The 2013-14 Home & School Volunteer Handbook includes information on the many ways you can become involved based on your interests and skills.

Meetings are held monthly during the school year on the second Monday of the month at 3:30 pm in the Boyd Room in the Hansen Library. All are welcome to attend.
