Field Hockey is one of the oldest competitive pastimes in the history of sport dating back well before the ancient Olympic Games. It is currently the second largest team sport played in the world. The game as it is played today started in England in the mid 19th Century. Field hockey is one of the oldest athletic traditions at the Academy. Our varsity competed for many years with independent schools in neighboring states prior to joining the WPIAL.
Sewickley Academy Field Hockey is a proud member of the WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League) District 7 AA and a member of the PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association). Our program has been competitive finishing in the top third of WPIAL, capturing one WPIAL District 7 AA title and qualifying for the PIAA playoffs. The head varsity coach is Cheryl Ann Lassen. She has been coaching since 1994 at Sewickley Academy. The team's record during Coach Lassen's tenure is 120 wins, 99 losses, and 21 ties. The philosophy of the program is to become the best student athlete possible and to realize their full potential. Our student athletes are learning valuable life skills which will help them throughout the rest of their lives.
