Over the past decade, the Sewickley Academy Girl's Soccer team has created a tremendous legacy of success. We set the foundation for being successful on the varsity squad during your time in Middle School. Our training begins in the hot August sun, and continues with games and practices throughout September and October. We strive for improvement in every player and as a team overall and all we ask is you bring a desire to learn, a positive attitude and a commitment to the team.
We welcome players of all skill levels, from someone who is currently playing cup soccer at a high level to the novice athlete who wants to give soccer a try. We use a variety of drills to help each player improve their individual skills and decision making as well as thrive as part of a team. Furthermore, we work with the varsity coaches to ensure that the skills we are developing in middle school will help each of you achieve success on the field once you reach senior school.
To be better prepared for the varsity level, we train to possess the ball, keep it on the ground and use our teammates to advance the play. We also work hard on proper positioning, playing aggressively and physically and supporting each other on defense. We focus on getting everyone plenty of touches on the ball, both at practice and in games. Finally, we have devised a system for playing time in games that has served us well and helps every player's development. This is accomplished by using our full squad in over half our games, with about a quarter of our games designated for our most experienced players, and the other quarter for those fairly new to the sport.
