Sewickley Academy's 175th Anniversary
Sewickley Academy celebrated its 175th Anniversary throughout the 2012-2013 academic year. The year-long celebration featured events to build community and celebrate the school's rich history. See photos below!
The year kicked off on October 5, 2012, with what will now be an annual tradition - Founders' Day. This special day also led into Reunion Weekend 2012, which featured a variety of events to commemorate the school's anniversary.
On Friday, April 5, Sewickley Academy hosted its second annual Day of Service, a full school day committed to service projects both on and off campus. Students wore their Founders' Day t-shirts throughout the day's projects.
The "SA Athletics and Athletes Through the Years" panel on April 30 was an inspiring dicussion with three-sport athlete Kimwood Partenheimer '71, renowned golfer Carol Semple Thompson '66, former assistant coach of women's lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania Gloria Lozano '00, and current star basketball player at Davidson College Tom Droney '10, about how athletics have shaped their lives.
In May and June, the aniversary year came to a climatic close with One Singular Sensation
, a tour of the past 175 years of SA history through a multi-generational musical review written and directed by SA alumna Marguerite Gregg Park '95, and the Grand Finale Picnic, when over 500 members of the school community gathered to share in the fun and festivities of an old-fashioned country fair and a dedication ceremony in the Secret Garden
